Normandale AFA art students and faculty at third AFA Exhibition

Normandale graduates largest AFA Art Class in at least 15 years

Normandale Community College recently celebrated the largest AFA Art graduating class in at least 15 years.

The Art Department had to split the 20-student graduating class into three different AFA Art Exhibitions that ran from April 13 to May 22.

The first exhibition ran from April 13-23, and featured Anna Casperson, Andrea Cuadros Zúñiga, Andrew English, Sam Gonzalez, Dayton Mohling, Victoria Moron and Jane White.

The second AFA exhibition ran from April 27-May 7 and featured Kit Beireis, Mason Blomer, Kaila Johnson, Abby Lenhardt, Hope Sandau and Jam Whitfield.

The third AFA exhibition was from May 11-22, and featured Kayla Aksamit, Mac Kummel, Sarah Larson, Mallory McAllister, Chelsea Savoie, Macie Timm and MacKayla Uderman.

“This was the first time I can remember an AFA Art Show opening during finals week,” said Normandale Art Instructor David Luke. “That is a great thing, because it means we had a lot art majors. We had 20 AFA major graduates this year, and it was exciting to have three different opportunities to showcase their amazing work.

Those shows are a lot of work, and our students all did a great job of putting together high-quality and diverse works of art. When I walked through these art exhibitions, I could consistently see that voices were being found. The three AFA exhibitions all looked like true art shows and were great collections. That is the point that we are getting AFA majors to no matter what is next in their journey, and it is exciting to see the end result of that hard work.”
